Braking questions - Synthesis report on the 3rd edition of UIC Leaflet 541-05, “Wheel slide protection devices”

In 2009 the UIC RSF decided to completely overhaul Leaflet 541-05, “Wheel slide protection devices”, the new (1st) edition of EN 15595 having proven to be insufficient for the requirements of operators.
Based on experience of certification processes conducted against the 2nd edition of the leaflet, the following major changes were decided:
- Introduction of function-based certification,
- Distinction between device certification and on-vehicle approval (vehicle implementation),
- Improved assessment methods,
- Extended use of simulation test benches for certification,
- Detailed specification for validation of simulation test benches.
The report contains a detailed description of the new or modified requirements in the 3rd edition of the leaflet.
